Our vision began when one of Mongolia’s renowned heart surgeons Dr. Bundan initiated and launched the “Bundan” project in 1979.

His son Dr. Boldsaikhan, also a heart surgeon, is now leading the team and continues serving underprivileged communities, raising funds, and collaborating with donors.

Our goal is to reach every child in need. Our team is undeterred by extreme remoteness, unfazed by hardships of travel through difficult roads, and unstoppable by natural disasters and even pandemics.

Dr. Bundan

The word “bundan” means “heart” in Mongolian. Could it be simple coincidence that Dr. Bundan, one of the foremost figures in the Mongolian medical field who has left an indisputable legacy as THE heart specialist in the history of Mongolian medicine is named as such?

Dr. Bundan has a son who is also a heart surgeon, his name is Boldsaikhan. Many Mongolians may know him from his active role in society - he has an extensive knowledge of literature, politics, art, but most know him as a highly skilled heart surgeon with talent comparable to his father.

Heart Remembers

The “Heart Remembers” project was officially announced in May 2020. The impetus behind this initiative stemmed from the impact of COVID-19, which disrupted the travel plans of doctors from Japan and Korea to perform surgeries and those seeking medical treatment in the United States or Turkey. Additionally, the 3rd State Central Hospital had ceased pediatric heart surgeries since Dr. Boldsaikhan’s departure in 2011.

Dr. Boldsaikhan grappled with the challenge of addressing heart defects in children. While pediatric heart surgeries were conducted in Songdo, they primarily served urban areas, leaving a gap in rural regions. To bridge this divide, Dr. Boldsaikhan proposed a solution: raising donations and organizing outreach missions to diagnose, transport, and perform surgeries on children in the countryside.

The first examination during the COVID period occurred between July 6, 2020, and July 16, 2020, covering Khuvsgul province, including Murun city, Khatgal and Tumurbulag soums, and the Many-River delta region.
